around taiwan in 5 days

as most people know by now, last week was chinese new year

here in taiwan, we had the entire week off

we spent most of that week on the road

took off from taipei and drove south along the west coast to spend one day in yunlin county visiting karen's grandpa

from there, we went further south and around the southern tip of the island; which took us into taitung where we hung out with ivan, his cousin and their familia for 4 days

the road home took us north from taitung along the east coast going through hualien and yilan and then back to taipei

all in all, we ended up driving over 1,300 km (800+ miles)

my first time driving around the entire island and i can't wait to do it again

next time, i wanna spend more time and visit more places

regardless, i wanna go back to taitung real soon tho'

it was just simply beautiful with lots of nature and cultural diversity

a real laid back and relaxing place

my kind of place

i'd love to live there for a while

at the moment, taitung is my favorite place in taiwan... with kenting a close second

I'm very jealous of the trip and of your photos. The ocean pics are specifically stunning.

Could your grandpa and his friends be anymore adorable????

thanks. i really can't wait to do it all over again, especially taitung.

haha, yea... they are a fun and funny bunch. they sure love to swear (in taiwanese). all day long, it's "gan" this... "gan" that. as a matter of fact, we were awaken at around 7am, but not by an alarm or because we weren't sleepy... we were awaken by a few people talking real loud and swearing in taiwanese... we looked out the window and found some really old guys sitting in the patio around a square table playing mahjong and drinking away. yup, at 7am! you can see a pic of them in the photo album i linked at the end of the post.

Oh man, I want to be reincarnated as an old taiwanese man. That's the life!

The pics are sooooo cute! I always want to adopt everyones' grandpas. Mine were dead before I was born and I have such a soft spot for old guys.

The man who looks like he got caught in with his hand in the cookie jar that everyone is posing with on your spaces pics is so cute and looks like a real character! Is he your grandpa. I'm confused if 2nd from the right means my right or their's.

this is grandpa. great and funny guy... loves to drink! made me stay up almost all night to drink with him. i was very happy to oblige.

i too have lost both my grandpas... i was very close to the one on my dad's side. karen's grandpa (who we visited) reminds me a lot of my own grandpa and made me miss very very much.
