wulai getaway
we took monday and tuesday off to go to wulai
we had been planning for this for a few weeks now
we sure picked a good time to take a couple days off
the past couple weeks have been for the most part... cold and gloomy
the past couple days we were out there... warm and sunny
absolutely beautiful weather
we stayed at the gorakadan (強羅花壇溫泉會館)
a great little hot spring hotel tucked away far enough from the main roads to give you good privacy
wulai is an area rich in aboriginal culture but we did not spend too much time going around
there seems to be a lot of construction going on right now, especially for new hot spring hotels / resorts
it seems like a rush to get them up and going by chinese new year
plus it was during the week, so most of the stores and shops were closed
but looking at the small roads leading into the area with all the construction going on, i would hate to go there on a weekend
and i probably won't

hello from macau... again
here i am sitting in the chinatrust vip lounge at the macau airport... again
just dropped by for a quick note and hello

my flight back to taiwan is in about an hour
went to china again for a business trip
3 days, 2 nights
nothing but meetings

one of my biggest pet peeves about taiwan is the traffic and everything related
when the new year rolled around, the government got tough and became real strict with it
they have been cracking on folks and issuing tickets like there's no tomorrow
i'm all for it
well, it's all dandy and sweet until it happens to oneself
last night, i went to the play basketball at the huai sheng junior high
it's in a neighbourhood near sogo and i've been going there for more than 3 years now
since it's on sunday nights, all the streets out there are parked to the max
regardless of the spot, as long as it's not blocking any entrances, there's a parked car
even the red zones
well, that's all changed now
unfortunately, last night i parked in a red zone and got a parking ticket
i looked at the cars around me that also parked in the red zones
yup, they got hit too
kinda made me feel a little better that it wasn't just me
but still, i was pissed off
yea, it was my own fault
do the crime, pay the fine
but still, i was pissed off
and check this...
the time of issue... 10:05pm
when i got to my car, looked at the ticket and checked my watch... 10:07pm
i just missed it by a couple minutes
yup, i was pissed
oh well, what can you do?
i'm all for this new tough strict crackdown policy
so, what can you do?
simple...

2006 reminisce
better late than never
here's a look back at the year that was
one of the best years of my life

it was one of the best years of my life for the simple fact that i got married this year. which in turn, was one of my happiest days of my life. nothing can top that... not until junior comes along :P
it wasn't all smiles this year though, as we lost someone dear to us. though we grew distant the past few year and didn't see much of him, it was hard to believe that he had passed when just 3 months before he was at my wedding genuinely happy for me. and for that, i am forever grateful to him for being there.
life goes on, and new life did come on. our next generation is coming along nicely as we saw a few births this year, including the following two. my sister cindy and my cousin mei.
seeing all these babies only means one thing... i'm getting old. some say it ain't a big deal, but i took it pretty hard as i turned the big 3 0 this year.
as i'm getting older, time becomes more limited but there's always time to travel overseas. this year i visited macau, bali indonesia, missouri, los angeles, zhuhai and huangtian china.
no worries, we did not neglect local travel. it was a year that brought me back to my high school and college days. basically lots of hanging out drinking and doing bbq. from da'an park in taipei city to garbage beach in bali, from miaoli to yilan... and everywhere in between, it was nothing but good times. mostly documented here... http://andresyu.spaces.live.com/photos

new year's eve camping
how did you welcome the new year?
for the past few years...
we've gone into the mayhem that is taipei city on new year's eve
this year...
we wanted to do something different
get away from the crowd
get out of the city

we went camping
but regardless of where we are
it sure won't stop us from acting the fools and having a good time
