last sunday's forecast had called for rain so we didn't plan on doing anything since we still had monday and tuesday off due to the mid-autumn festival
woke up sunday morning and looked out the window...
sunny with barely a cloud in the sky
just great and amazing weather
i should have known better than believe the forecast, after all this is taiwan!
we didn't want the day to go to waste so started to think what where we could go, what we could do
suddenly we remembered that my cousin becky and her family were going to their cabin in miaoli
sounds like a plan
called the cousin, made the arrangements, prepared some food and off we went just like that
what's really cool is that my mom and grandma came along with us
it was great to spend a nice relaxing day with family
took these shots while driving on the highway on the way to miaoli. what'd i tell ya? check out the beautiful sky and weather!
the cabin in miaoli
some of the neighbours
it had been raining for a few days earlier so the stream water was really muddy. it's usually pretty clear as you can see from the next picture of the same stream which i took a few months ago
i got caught up enjoying the bbq, a couple beers and a nice relaxing time so didn't take more pictures
planning to go back in a couple weeks
who wants in?

facebooked..... again
i had signed up for facebook a few months ago but then i deleted my account
never really explored it but i thought it was the same as friendster, myspace and hi5; all of which i'm already a member of but rarely use
after getting a shit-load of facebook invites these past couple months, i gave in and signed up again last night
been exploring it most of the day today and it is basically the same as friendster and myspace but i guess with some more applications so it's a bit more fun
so, are you on facebook?
add me... andres yu or ayu112(at)gmail.com

a walk in the park - xinzhuang park
the greater taipei area really lacks green space
we are fortunately enough to live a block away from one of the biggest parks in all of taipei
the xinzhuang park
even though we don't take full advantage of it and don't go as much as we should, we do still go sometimes
now with the wifey pregnant, we've been going there to take a stroll more often than usual
i also go there to play basketball once in a while, but the courts get way too packed for my liking
the one thing that's bad about the park is the traffic it sometimes creates
the park has a big indoor arena which is used for concerts and for a number of sporting events as well as a baseball stadium where taiwan's major league plays games at
whenever there's an event / game going on, the surrounding area is packed with traffic
here are some pics of the park i took while we took a stroll a couple weeks ago...

the little girl's hand could have / should have been place at a better place
it started to get dark so i stopped taking pictures
i'll be back with more pics soon

taiwan is taiwan

from james lick...I was looking for a site that could host a petition asking Kanye West to stop referring to Taiwan as a ‘Province of China’ when I came across iPetitions which looks like it would be a good place to post a petitions… except that it too calls Taiwan a ‘Province of China’.
So instead, I started a petition asking iPetitions to stop calling Taiwan a ‘Province of China’:
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/ipetitions-taiwan/
Please click through and sign the petition. (And yes, if you’re in Taiwan you’ll have to select ‘Taiwan, Province of China’ as the country. Oh the irony.)
no doubt!
please sign the petition and help spread the word

UN for Taiwan
i am pro-taiwan, but it doesn't necessarily mean i am anti-china
it means i believe taiwan is not part of china
taiwan is a nation of its own
an independent country
i am not denying my chinese past but i can not ignore my taiwanese present and future
yes, i am chinese
my ancestry is chinese
however, as far as i know, my great-grandfather, my grandfather, my father and myself were all born in taiwan
that's at least four generations
we are taiwanese
i am taiwanese
i love my country
i love taiwan
i support "UN for Taiwan"

john rambo
back in the days (elementary school), i remember running around the house barechested, with a red headband and toy machine gun pretending to be rambo
now one of my favorites characters and movies all of time is back
not just back
back with a motherfucking vengence!
wow!

ah-liu noodles
my mom said when we (my siblings and i) were kids, her and dad used to take us to a very famous restaurant called "ah-liu noodles" (阿六切仔麵)
it really must have been pretty popular back then since wifey's parents also used to take their family there
almost 30 years later and the place is still as popular as ever
just google 阿六切仔麵 and you'll see
by the way, how do you say 阿六 in english? sixer?
wifey and i have driven by it many many times and have always wanted to go but never gone until last week where they moved to a new location in luzhou
you know the place is good when you get there past 2pm and the place is packed
now we know why the place is so popular
the food was excellent and the price was very reasonable
we highly recommend it and we can't wait to take our parents back
ah-liu
their famous soup noodles
wifey had the noodles in "dry" form, so without the soup
fish skin
bamboo shoot
goose meat
pig intestine

grilling in hukou & swimming in linkou
i love doing spontaneous stuff and last night, it was as spontaneous as it gets
we received a last minute invite from the one, the only bushman and his lovely wife hui-chen to come and hang out in hukou
just look here and here
how could i say no?!
this is shao-hui, where it all went down
the following pics are all courtesy of the bushman (click on any of the pics to check out the bushman's recount)

i love bbq and i've had a lot of bbq in my life and this is some of the best bbq i've ever had!
but you know, it's not all about the marinate and the food. let's me put it this way... without the right driver, the fatest car in the world would not win any races.
the thai food was also excellent!
the cousin and the wifey

we killed a bottle of sang son royal thai rum. well, i only had a couple glasses, so the bushman did most of the killing
i like to thank mj and hui-chen for a wonderful time and the great hospitality
we'll be back real soon
anyone wanna join us next time?
when we woke up this morning, we were still feeling stuffed from last night
that's how much food we ate!
we wanted to go out and walk around somewhere
kinda burn off some fat / calories
my sister called and asked us to go swimming in linkou
we've also wanted to go swimming for a while now
so, perfect!
the doctor told us it's very good for the mother and baby to walk around inside a swimming pool
we've been a bit hesitant to go to some of the local pools around us because they are pretty packed
this place we went to was very nice and had very little people
looks like we found our pool for the wifey to do some underwater exercises
