sansia old street

despite the weather looking gloomy and with the skies threatening to rain, we decided to take our chances and headed out to sansia (aka sanxia or sanshia) old street.....

sansia old street
this is the sansia qingshui zushi temple located at one end of the old street.

sansia old street
here's a look at the old street. the last time i was out here was almost 15 years ago and it has changed a lot since. it has been cleaned up and remodeled and altho' the essence and culture is still there, it just feels way too commercial and touristy.

sansia old street
cool retro architecture.

sansia old street
another temple located within the street.

sansia old street
the buildings have been remodeled but they did retain the original address plates.

sansia old street
all sort of stuff was being sold. from chinese calligraphy brushes...

sansia old street
to toy windmills...

sansia old street
to incense burners...

sansia old street
to blocks of handmade soap.

sansia old street
old style shop sign.

sansia old street
father and daughter enjoying the retro stroll.

sansia old street
she's always happy to be out and about!

sansia old street
the rain really started to pour, so we decided to find a place to sit and eat.

sansia old street
pig blood rice cake with peanut butter. sounds like something out of the show bizarre foods.

sansia old street
sticky rice.

sansia old street
old style game machines.

sansia old street
karaoke setup right in the middle of the road, with disregard for anyone walking by of course. i say that because they had these huge ass, loud f*cking speakers all around including right next to the stage; and since the stage was blocking most of the road you had to walk right by the stage and one of the speakers. it didn't help that these old men were really screaming instead of singing.

sansia old street
the river that runs through the city.
