continuing with our trip to hong kong earlier this month.....
we spent our entire second day inside the disneyland theme park.
once inside you can immediately feel the x'mas spirit and atmosphere in the air.
even the mascots had x'mas themed clothes on. olivia was super excited when we first saw them but she was pretty scared when we walked up to them. guess they are a lot bigger in person than on tv!
the "main street" where they had tons of shops and stores of all sorts.
ups seemed to have paid big bucks because their presence was pretty eminent all over the place.
just about everywhere you went, there was some kind of performance or show going on.
the famous disney castle in the distance, which was a lot smaller than i expected it to be. in fact, the whole park was a lot smaller than i expected.
a closer look at the castle.
a lot of rides we couldn't go on including this here. notice the number "20" under "STAND-BY ENTRANCE". yup, that's 20 minutes waiting in line to get on the ride. k, thanks but no thanks.
some rides we could go on but again the line-ups were pretty long so we just passed up.
taking a break and enjoying some popcorn.
the small world christmas ride which was a lot of fun, altho' the song "it's a small world" was quite annoying and was stuck in my head for a while.
a short video taken inside the ride.
photo with goofy.
and with mickey. we did also get photos with pluto and that's about it. the line-ups for donald, daisy and minnie were too long and i didn't want to wait around.
this was taken during the line-up while we waited to take a photo with mickey. guess i'm not the only one who's not fond of line-ups.
on the adventureland boat.
fake robotic elephants.
fake robotic hippo.
some "monkey business" going on.
more fake robotic animals but funny.
time to see the christmas themed parade.
olivia was so tired she just passed out in my arms so unfortunaly we missed the supposedly very spectacular fireworks & lighting show. oh well, it just means we have to come back again!
back in our hotel room where olivia woke up and later enjoyed some strawberries while watching disney cartoons of course.
in the meantime, karen and i enjoy our own little snack.
and that's that. we did spend one more day in hong kong but i didn't take any photos. all in all, it was a great little vacation but it was extremely tiring and stressful. that's mainly because we had to put up with olivia's tantrums since she didn't nor wouldn't take her afternoon naps. however, olivia had an absolutely blast at disneyland and ultimately, that's all that matters to us.

so, we took olivia to disneyland in hong kong a couple weeks ago as her birthday (she turned 2 near the end of november) present.....
her flight time flying.....
and as expected, she was very excited and active. it seems she was busier than the flight attendants!
flying over the mountain ranges of central taiwan.
we stayed at the disney "hollywood" hotel, so from the airport we went directly to the disneyland subway station.
the disneyland subway station.
and how do you get to the disneyland station? aboard the disney train of course! despite being super sleepy, olivia's eyes immediately lit up when we boarded the train.
inside the disney train.
it's hollywood baby!
everywhere you go, it had some kind of disney decor (mainly mickey's famous silhouette). from mirrors in the hallway.....
to the elevator button.
our room, which kept to the disney themed decor of course.
even the toiletry amenities were disney themed. check out the mickey caps on the bottles of shampoo and bath gel.
later on we went to walk around the hotel premises.
we noticed a guy holding a bunch of balloons. he was waving them at kids within his sight and as soon as he saw us, he waved the balloons our way which of course prompted olivia to grab my hand and pull me in his direction. we walk up to the guy and he hands olivia a balloon then we just walked away assuming he was giving them away for free. nope. guy chases us and tells me the balloon costs hk$100 (that's roughly us$13)! i ain't no cheap guy but holy shit, that's a lot to pay for a balloon! even if they were some nice balloons. ridiculous! so i quickly grabbed my camera and took a few pictures of olivia with the balloon and just handed the balloon back to the guy. ok, thanks for playing. bye-bye. off we went.
looking back and longing for the balloons as the guy walks further and further away.
disappointed at not getting a balloon! :(
well, no worries. kids forget quickly, especially when they see a disney store!
hmm... maybe i should've bought that balloon after all!
after a while, we went to downtown hong kong to meet and dine with my good friend billy tang, who i've known since the 8th grade. that's some 20+ years!
we went to a traditional hk style "tea restaurant", where they had wonton noodles of course. the wonton is hk is out of this world! well, at least compared to the puny wontons we get in taiwan. it's so good, everywhere we ate in hk we made sure they had wonton noodles. yeah, it's that good.
the bbq pork bun wasn't half bad either but of course not as good as in macau.
after dinner we walked around for a bit and did some shopping then went back to the hotel fairly early considering the disney hotel is about 45 minutes subway ride from hk. plus we had a long day ahead of us as we were planning to go inside the disneyland theme park the next day!
