tricycle ride at the levee park in wugu

the weather is now finally hot and sunny like its supposed to be, with temperatures hovering around low to mid 30's C. i say finally because it has taken longer than usual this year for the warm weather to make its presence consistently. the past couple months have been fairly cold with temperatures reaching as low as under 10 C. the rain and overcast dominated most of the days during that time, while the sun rarely made an appearance. well, we took advantage of one of those rare appearances by the sun and went to the levee park in wugu and rented a tricycle to ride around.....

this is the open plaza where most kids ride their bikes or rollerblade. at both ends of the plaza, there are some tents and kiosks that rent out bicycles and tricycles by the hour. you do not necessarily have to stay in this plaza. there are paths all over the park in which you can ride along. in fact, there are bike paths that connect most of taipei county along the river so you can definitely ride quite a long ways if you wanted to.

we opted for a tricycle. this is where you rent them.

olivia excited to get the ride on.

and off we go, with me taking driver's seat first.

lookout from the back seat.

riding by some basketball courts...

some baseball team warming up for their practice session...

some lady looking for some herbs i think on the grass fields along the riverbank...

construction for the taoyuan airport rapid transit system...

river...

highway 64 in the distance...

time for mama to get on the driver's seat.

stopped to take break.

olivia was having a great time. just look at that smile! happy olivia = happy me.

well, she became even happier when we bought her some ice cream!
"you scream, i scream, we all scream for some ice cream!"

she devoured that ice cream cone with the quickness.

the results.

our hour was up on the rental so we had to return the trike. afterwards we ran around a little bit in the plaza.

she was getting tired and started yawning at this point so it was time to go home for her afternoon nap.

here's the google maps location for the park.....

You're giving me so many things to look forward to! I can't wait to do this with Han & Olena when she's a bit older!

ashish... thanks man. yeah, i'm loving the recent weather. wish i had gone to craig's photowalk last weekend.

cat... yeah, it's a lot of fun, plus it's so close by (well, at least for us. under 10 minutes drive). the whole area is great. there's a little goat farm there with some chickens and ducks so the kids can feed the animals and there's so much open space for the kids to run around.

We just went there today and had fun feeding some grass to the goats. First time for our daughter, so that was quite an experience for her.

Unfortunately - while other bicycles were available - it seems they only rent out the trikes on the weekends. Thought that might be potentially useful info for your readers.

hi stefan, glad to hear your daughter had a good time. sorry to hear about the trikes not being available for rent. i had no idea that they only rented those out on weekends as i've never been there on a weekday. thanks for the heads up on that!
by the way, i want to recommend Green World to you and your daughter. the website is http://www.green-world.com.tw we haven't been there yet but a lot of people have told us it's great for kids and it's not too far away from taipei. maybe you've been there already. we plan to go sometime in the next month. cheers!

Hi Andre,

Thanks for the recommendation - Green World looks like a great place, and we haven't been yet. We'll go on a visa run soon (as good an excuse as any to explore Hongkong) but will be back next month, so I'll add this to our travel ideas list.

Went to the Taipei water park today - man what fun for our little one: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_yFhMtbhzk3s/S_vKCPKOvYI/AAAAAAAAAMM/zk1NnV8Y2A8/s1600/DSC_0649.JPG

beautiful photo stefan!
i've never heard of the taipei water park. is this it? http://waterpark.twd.gov.tw/
looks like a lot of fun. another place for us to take olivia on the weekend. thanks!

That's the place, yes.
If you look at this with Google maps, there are several areas where kids could play:

(1) N 25 0.876, E 121 31.932
Looks very nice there, shallow winding pool, nice pavilions to sit in. But didn't have any water when we were visiting. (Maybe they do on the weekends?)

(2) N 25 0.817, E 121 31.849
This looks like a really nice playground, lots of slides and stuff. Was under renovation though.

(3) N 25 0.780, E 121 31.818
Little pool for very small children to wade in. That's were we went, was just right for us. You need to buy a ticket for the drinking water museum.

(4) N 25 0.732, E 121 32.005
"Aqua friendly experiencing area" according to the water park map - doesn't show up on Google, so the coordinates are probably off. It's a big swimming area/spa with cool slides and the like. Our daughter is too small to get much out of that, but maybe Olivia could enjoy it already? You need a separate ticket for this area.

Apparently the playground (2) renovations will be completed this month, so I'd recommend not to go this weekend but rather in June. We are planning a return visit in June as well, we are keen to see it working.

Between (1) and (2) there is a bar area: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_yFhMtbhzk3s/S_vN2PXSZMI/AAAAAAAAAM8/2VK2MSzcQaM/s1600/DSC_0717c.JPG
Has a really nice beach-like feel for it. Maybe a place to get food and drinks for the parents.

wow! thanks stefan for the very detailed information! unfortunately, it's been raining non-stop in taipei on the weekends so we haven't been able to go yet.
we did go here a couple weeks ago: http://www.furano.com.tw/
it's bad there. boring and nothing to do.

Hi Andre - ok, I'll give that one a miss.

Apologies for turning your comment section into the Taipei waterpark blog, but ...

The waterpark playground is now open again - looks great!

Hi Stefan,
No, no worries. Your valuable info is much appreciated! We never knew about the TPE Waterpark until you told us. We do plan to go soon; that is if it doesn't rain! It's been raining almost every weekend. :(
