Afternoon tea at the Herb Garden

The Herb Garden is kinda famous amongst the locals here in Xinzhuang; and altho' it's less than 10 minutes drive from home, we've never been there. Well, on a weekend last month we were sitting at home with no plans and feeling kinda bored, we decided to check it out.....

Driving there you get an underwhelming feeling that maybe we should have stayed home since you have to drive through an industrial area with some pretty run-down factories.

Once you get to the entrance you realize it ain't too shabby.

As you walk through the front gate, you totally forget about the ghetto industrial area just outside. The place had an oasis in the desert feel to it.

Since the place is called Herb Garden, they actually grown herbs there.

Very cool and relaxing seating area.

Olivia was having a good time running around.

Taking a break and having a drink.

I thought the food was pretty good...

and so did Olivia.

Olivia talking to the teddy bear.

She really liked the big teddy bear.

In the back, there was a big open field with a fake chapel for weddings. I think this would be a very nice place to hold a wedding reception.

A closer look at the outside of the chapel.

And a look at the inside of the chapel.

Before this photo was taken, Olivia nearly gave me a heart attack. She ran to that bridge and screamed at me to take a photo of her standing on the bridge over the water. I guess she thought she was being adventurous and daring. Well, I wasn't having a kid in that water so i pulled her towards me and away from the water for this photo.

There was a huge bird cage with a peacock and some exotic bird that I don't even know what it's called.

This is the other bird. Anyone know what it is?

They also had some bunnies in cages.

Olivia was getting a kick out of it all.

All photos from this outing can be seen in the following slideshow.....

Hi Andre,

The bird is a golden pheasant (also called Chinese pheasant). Is it on the menu? :-)

(It is a game bird so ...)

Looks like another nice place to go with kids - thank you for sharing this with us, I'll put it on my list for next year.

thanks stefan. i've seen the golden pheasant a few times before but never knew its name. in fact i saw some before at a restaurant in china, so it was on the menu there :P

yeah, nice place for kids to run around and for the adults to have a nice relaxing day drinking some tea/coffee. what i failed to say in the blog is that a lot of tv dramas are filmed at this place.

Thanks Andre. Thanks for the tip. Will be sure to visit that place soon. Looks great. Can you tell me, do they sell herbs or other plants there? I'm looking for plants for my garden.
