A few months ago, we spent a weekend at the Papago International Resort in Taitung and it turned out to be one of the best vacations I've ever had in Taiwan.

We took the train from Taipei to Taitung, which makes it a lot easier on me since driving there would have been real stressful and tiring. By car on a good day without much traffic... at least 6 hours, .

The other great thing about taking the train is I get to enjoy the beautiful scenery that the east coast has to offer.

Also, Olivia really loves the ride the train. Just look at her, she can hardly contain her excitement! :P

We arrived in Chishang (Taitung County) just before noon. Since it was almost lunch time and the area is known for their rice; the first order of business was to buy some lunch boxes.

The lunch box. There was a line-up at the store so it has to be good, right?

Right. It lived up to its billing. The rice was so good!

After lunch, we made our way to the resort. Not the best weather but at least it wasn't raining.

Our room wasn't ready, so we walked around the resort a bit to check things out. Here's Olivia pretending to taking a nap.

The resort would make a great place for outdoor weddings.

After we checked into our rooms, it was time to hit the pool!

After a couple hours playing in the pool, it was time to get back to the room.

All in a hard day's work.

Very beautiful, but seeing the empty pool was funny - so typical for Taiwan. :-)
Stefan... yes! the pools are usually empty in most of the hotels / resorts we've stayed at here in taiwan. there was one hotel we stayed at where the pool had quite a lot of people, but it was of course an indoor pool! people look at me like i'm crazy when i'm just lying there shirtless next to the pool soaking up the sun. "oh my god, is he trying to get a tan??? does he know he will look darker???"
haha.
When they look at my pasty white face lying in the sun they don't batter an eye. It's almost as if they agree I need more shade to me!
It's looks really nice there! I hope to do more travel around Taiwan when my daughter is a bit older.
And Olivia is so cute!
Terry
Terry, funny u would say that. a lot of times the other people that would brave the sun in these pools along with me have been foreigners.
thanks you! :)
hey Chelsea, when i see a pasty white face, i leave them alone because i think they're dead!
Stefan, the pool is open, and there's nobody in it! better for us who don't care about the darkness of our skin!
i cannot understand why people would rather look like death, than risk someone thinking they might be a laborer or not an office worker. duh.
MJ... yes, one of the best things about this fear of the sun is we get the pool all to ourselves!
Can't argue with that.
Thanks for the free pool office workers.
Yeah, I enjoy the empty pools, too. I remember in Singapore we had this absolutely amazing pool behind our friend's condo - just me and my wife were using it. Twice a day and all alone. :-)
On the other hand, the western excessive tanning fad is even more silly than the Taiwanese "no ray of sunlight shall reach my skin" approach. Skin cancer is not such a great idea either.
I think there's a happy middle somewhere.
